The incident happened on Sunday, August 16, when the man out of rage set the five people on fire because he felt his lover was having an affair with another man and he could not stand it.
It was reported that the woman, Hadijat Adegoke, was living with her four children ─ Fawas (13), Ishwat (12), Sodiq (8), and Fathia (6) in an uncompleted two bedroom apartment after she left her husband in a rented apartment. It was gathered that the house was constructed by a lover and another lover had also raised the house to the present state.
According to reports, the woman had asked Munirudeen Lawal to pass the night in her place when another lover came around. He was enraged when he saw another man in the house and doused the building in petrol before setting fire to the house and fled the area.
All the occupants were affected by the inferno except Ishwat who escaped unscathed because she was yet to sleep when the fire started. Hadijat and Lawal were the worst affected and were taken to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Osogbo. They eventually died due to the severity of the burns they suffered.
A resident said: “The man discovered that they were having sex. He was visibly angry. Nobody paid him any notice because such drama was not a new thing here.”
The three children were taken to Muslim Hospital, Ede where they were undergoing treatment for their burns.
