THE Senate,Tuesday,
failed to screen the former governor of Rivers State,Rotimi Amaechi along other
first batch of ministerial nominees.
The
screening of the former Director General of Buhari Presidential Campaign
Organisation was deferred till Wednesday.
The
inability of the Senate to screen Amaechi was due to the inability of the
Senate Committee on Ethics and Public Petition to submit report of clearance on
after his appearance before the committee on Monday.
Amaechi
appeared before the committee the previous day to defend himself following
petitions of alleged corrupt acts against him by some groups from his state.
However,
the committee cleared another nominee,Mrs Amina Ibrahim, who was equally
petitioned against by some persons from Kaduna State on allegation that she was
not an indigene of the State.
Chairman
of the ethics committee,Senator Chris Anyanwu, explained that Mrs Ibrahim was
cleared given that the petition against her was on the basis that she was
nominated from Kaduna State when she was actually an indigene of Gombe State.
He
said the committee found out that she was nominated from Gombe and not from
Kaduna State, contrary to the petition, which insinuated that she was nominated
to represent Kaduna State.
