We all know if Kim Kardashian is spotting using a product, the rest
of the world will soon follow suit. So what’s the latest Kim K. craze?
Ask the selfie…
Kim has recently posted a couple of selfies wearing a waist training
corset, touting in one of them “I’m really obsessed with waist
training.”
Now, we would hope you all know by now to take anything celebs say
with a grain of salt. For all we know, Kim was paid to say this, and
only wore the corset for the selfie purposes. Or maybe she does really
use them…Jessica Alba told Net-a-Porter that she wore a double corset
day and night for three months following her pregnancy. “It was brutal;
it’s not for everyone.”
But before you get excited and scramble to buy one, let us burst your
bubble- POP! For the love of all that is holy, get it through your
pretty little heads that there are no easy fixes to weight loss. Aside
from cardio and strength training, you can’t actually reshape your body
by wearing a tight garment.
In fact, these corsets come with instructions that tell you that
exercising and eating a balanced diet is a mandatory part of corset
training…psst- you would see results from diet & exercise changes
without wearing an uncomfy corset. Another reason you’ll lose weight?
Wearing a gut-smashing girdle (literally) is obviously going to reduce
your appetite- how can you eat if you can barely breathe? This can’t be
healthy.
Our favorite best selling celebrity fitness and health expert JJ Virgin
told Fox News “People should know better. This is so ridiculous. You
are blocking oxygen, reducing flow to your lungs, heart and other
organs, which in turn slows metabolism as your cells become deprived of
oxygen. Organ failure can also occur. In a word: don’t.”
Is there any truth to these corsets? Kind of. The corset would make
your midsection sweat, which helps cause the shed of water weight, but
there are healthier ways to do this. We instead recommend a waist trimmer belt.
Made of non-breathable materials to trap the heat, they are worn around
your midsection during workouts only, and aren’t unbearably tight- no
smashing of organs or restriction to the lungs.
Sorry Kim K, this one is a “don’t.”
