Australian hitmaker, the notoriously publicity-shy Sia, has just unveiled the video for her single, Chandelier, from her forthcoming album, 1000 Forms of Fear, due out later this year. The once-retired singer/songwriter has crafted a haunting video befitting of her own quirky nature, which spotlights the incredible dancing talents of 11-year-old US TV star Maddie Ziegler.
In the video, Ziegler, who stars in reality show Dance Moms – a program that documents the day-to-day lives of young elite dancers and their mothers – is a stand in for Sia, rocking a blonde wig and a flesh coloured leotard while manically dancing her way through the various rooms of a dilapidated home. Hers is a carefully crated performance, which results in an iconic clip. It’s going to be hard to hear this song without also recalling Ziegler tumbling backwards onto a couch or spinning in silhouette.
Sia, who co-directed the video, said in a statement, “Very proud of the gifted Maddie Ziegler, an incredible crew, choreographer Ryan Heffington, cinematographer Sebastian Wintero and my brilliant co-director Daniel Askill. Together we shared a beautiful day, and created something we are all very proud of. Here are the fruits.”
Sia’s much anticipated new album 1000 Forms of Fear is due out in Australia on 4th July.
