I’m not surprised that Pharrell chose a big awards ceremony to début hi look.The infamous Mountie hat was birthed at the Grammy’s, after all. If you thought that he was going to show up in a crisp white suit a la Olivia Palermo‘s new husband, you don’t know Pharrell. The only way he would wear the suit is if he accessorized it with a few beaded necklaces, a pair of fluorescent loafers and a Chanel backpack.
The UGG boots are a far less controversial fashion choice than a Native American headdress. Thankfully there is no cultural appropriation to speak of here, but the boots are still a polarizing footwear choice. Even at the height of their fuzzy sheep-skinned popularity, you either loved UGGs, or thought they were the ugliest, most expensive slippers you’d ever seen. (Those people in the latter, clearly had never put on a pair and felt the fur cuddle their feet.)
Pharrell paired his UGGs with the same light-washed boot cut jeans that I would have paired my UGG boots with back in the day. Of course he tucked his jeans into the boots, because that is the only wear to properly wear UGGs–plus it allowed him to show off the embroidered trim.
He completed the look with a handful of necklaces and a t-shirt with “Think Other” written across the chest. Perhaps this was his thought process behind his footwear choice of the evening?
