2-Year-Old Baby Stranded In Hospital After Hit-And-Run Driver Kills Mother

GA woman was crushed by a speeding car on Wednesday while her two-year-old baby was injured as they were crossing the Abuja-Zuba expressway.
It was gathered that the deceased, a newspaper vendor, simply identified as Mama Favor, was carrying the baby on her back as she dashed to across the ever-busy expressway when a hit-and-run driver knocked her down.
A witness said the baby was flung into a gutter by the roadside while the mother  lay lifeless on the centre of the road.
The witness who faulted the deceased for not making use of the pedestrian bridge, said she was still lying unconscious on the road and about three other cars ran over her before her body was evacuated.
He said the driver ran away while the mangled corpse was moved away by NEMA officials and police officers who arrived the scene almost immediately, adding that the baby was rescued alive.
Similarly, an elderly man lost his life after he was knocked down by a speeding car in the same area.
It was gathered that the deceased, a Nigerien, identified as Mahaman Hachimuo, was crossing the expressway when he met his death.
A witness said efforts by the driver to avoid hitting the man did not succeed as the deceased rammed onto the wind screen smashing with the particles of the glass injuring the driver.
According to the witness, the deceased was immediately taken to the Kubwa General Hospital by officials of the FRSC, along with the driver.
Confirming the two accidents, the Dutse Divisional Police Officer, SP Hajiya Aisha Yusuf, said the baby was receiving treatment at the paediatric unit of the hospital, while both corpses had been deposited at the morgue.
