A Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced a 43-year-old labourer, Mohammed Ibrahim, to six weeks imprisonment for selling used recharge cards.
The Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, however gave Ibrahim N3, 000 option of fine, and warned him to desist from committing crime.
The convict, a resident of Dagba, Area1, Garki, Abuja was convicted for cheating.
The prosecutor, Urum Otu, had told the court that one Francis Obeakemhe of Jikwoyi Phase 2, Abuja reported the matter at Garki Police Station on Nov. 7.
He said that the complainant was driving along the pedestrian crossing at Area 1, Abuja, on Oct. 31 when the convict deceived him to buy Glo and Etisalat GSM recharge cards from him.
He said that the convict claimed to be stranded without any money and needed to sell the said recharge cards valued at N4,000 at the rate of N3, 000.
The prosecutor alleged that before the complainant could discover that the recharge cards were used ones, the convict had already disappeared into thin air.
The prosecutor said that the convict was caught on Nov. 7, around Area 1, Garki, Abuja, while trying to defraud another victim.
He said that the offence contravened Section 322 of the Penal Code.
