It is all glaringly clear to see in the loss to Swansea, how Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney looked out of sort and remarkably had the least touches of all united players in the first half, including new goalkeeper Sergio Romero, and his performance in the second half wasn’t that much better either.
The 29 year old certainly has to improve his form in the Premier League if Manchester united are to mount a serious and credible title challenge this season. As the captain, the longest serving and the attacking spearhead of the team, the onus is on him to reproduce his best forms or be side-lined by his ruthless manager Louis Van Gaal, who reputably would not think twice to banish him to the bench.
Moreso, because of the new centre forward acquisition, 19yr old French U21 International, Anthony Martial who just signed a four-year deal from Monaco, to bolster the attack after the sale of ‘Chicarito’ Hernandez to Bayern Leverkusen and the recent departures of Robin Van Persie to Fernabache and Radamel Falcao to Chelsea.
Rooney bagged a hat-trick against the lowly club Brugge few weeks ago to help united qualify for the Champions League, ending 878minutes barren spell for the club.
However, Louis Van Gaal offered a flawed and bizarre defence of his striker, “He has to do what a striker has to do in our system and he does that. So I am very satisfied with him. 
Rooney said in his own defence; “I’ve had one bad game this season and everyone’s all over it. I’ve had that throughout my career but hopefully at the weekend i can get off the mark, he said prior to the Swansea game.
“It is early on in the season, we’re just three games in. I’ve experienced this criticism before and the goals will come. I know that.
“I understand i have to be the one who’s going to lead that line for us, and try and find the goals for us.
