Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has suggested that Real Madrid are pushing for his tax evasion trial because the capital club is still angry they lost out on signing Neymar Jnr.
Bartomeu currently awaiting trial amidst allegations of tax evasion and fraud regarding Neymar’s transfer from Santos and the BArca boss claims Madrid is behind a campaign to have him jailed for financial crimes.
Goal.com quotes him telling RAC1: “In Madrid they still don’t understand Neymar chose Barca and they are trying to create difficulties for the club and for him.
“Let’s see how the trial finishes, but I will never get tired of defending club and player interests.”
Back in 2013, the Catalans were able to beat a host of clubs to sign the 223 year old Brazil captain.
Neymar’s transfer fees has remained a debatable issue in Spain and Brazil with Barcelona claiming €57 million initially until a court case revealed the Catalan club paid as much as €86.2m.
