Inmate Walks Out Of Open Prison To Enjoy A Night With His Wife In Boutique Hotel

A brazen prisoner walked out of a notorious open prison to enjoy an overnight stay at a luxury hotel with his wife and even tricked management into giving him the executive room for free.

Douglas Ward, 26, dodged at least four roll calls at North Sea Camp Prison while he was living it up in the Grade II-listed boutique hotel with wife Eileen, 27, over the August bank holiday weekend.A court heard the inmate – who was serving more than five years for firearms offences at the time – was only rumbled when suspicious hotel staff discovered his Facebook page listed his status as a ‘serving prisoner’

By then, Ward had uploaded photographs of him and his wife drinking the contents of the mini-bar in their room at 15-bedroom Cley Hall Hotel, a Georgian property in the centre of Spalding, Lincolnshire.

The court heard Ward’s wife checked in to the hotel using the name Ellen Thompson – a false first name with her maiden surname. She was described by the hotel manager as having an ‘orange complexion as if she used fake tan and what he took to be very large breast implants’

Mrs Ward then negotiated a second free night after claiming her husband could not drive them back to their home town of Darlington, County Durham, because his ankle was too swollen.

But by then, staff had become suspicious of the couple after noticing Ward wearing ‘a simple crepe bandage on his leg that he thought was not of the type that would be given out by a hospital’.

Mr Cranmer-Brown added: ‘The manager was a bit suspicious. He was concerned there may be some adverse comments on Facebook and made some inquiries.

The prosecutor added: ‘At North Sea Camp there are rolls calls at 5am, 5pm, 8pm and midnight. He was able to evade these checks. It is not entirely clear whether he returned or he just wasn’t checked.

Lincoln Crown Court heard the hotel staff attempted to charge Ward for the room using the credit card details he had supplied when he made the booking, but the transaction did not go through.

The prison in the Lincolnshire Fen village of Freiston was then alerted and arrangements were made for Ward to be transferred to a more secure jail.

‘He discovered some photographs had been uploaded on Facebook which showed the two of them consuming the contents of the mini-bar and noticed that the defendant’s Facebook profile showed he was living at HMP Strange ways.

Onyeka Onwenu Visits Yola IDP Camp, Donates Relief Materials

The Director General National Centre for Women Development Lady Onyeka Onwenu visited IDPs camp in Damare Yola on Tuesday 29th September 2015. She was accompanied by Director Relief and Rehabilitation of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Mr Ezeh Udemezue and Country Representative of the UNHCR Ms Angele Dikongue-Atangana to the camp where she presented some relief supports to the IDPs and also undertook a psychosocial interaction with them. The team also paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Governor of Adamawa State Mr Martins Babale.

Driver Crushes Friend To Death After Sharing Ogogoro In Benin

Tragedy struck in Benin City on Monday, as a driver attached to a private firm in Edo State, crushed his friend, Pa Egbe Eghobawaye,  to death,after sharing a local gin, popularly known as Ogogoro, together.

The tragedy started when the driver was said to have visited Pa Eghobawaye, who was the Odionwere (oldest man) of Nekpenekpen Street, off First East Circular road in Benin City, and requested for the local gin from the wife of the deceased, who deals in the local gin.

After sharing the Ogogoro with Pa Eghobawaye, said to be in his 80s,he decided to go back to his office, but lost control of the vehicle and crushed his friend to death, to the surprise of residents of the area.

Angry residents were said to have descended on the driver, but he was rescued by some youths, who handed him over to the Police.

The Odionwere was said to be having a shave in front of his house after the drink with his friend, when the truck driver lost control, and hit him.

Wife of the deceased who witnessed the incident, was said to have fainted, and was rushed to the hospital where she was revived.

Brother to the deceased, Mr. Solomon Omoregie, who spoke to newsmen, lamented that “for a company driver to kill my brother like this, is very callous. We will not take the law into our hands and we have told our family members not to take any action by burning the vehicle or by killing the man. We want the police to take up the case and do what is necessary.

At the time of this report, it was gathered that the Odionwere was buried Monday night following his instruction to his children that his corpse should not be deposited in the mortuary.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Stephen Onwuche, said the driver had been arrested and that investigations were ongoing to ascertain the real cause of the incident.

The Abule Igbehin Community of Ilasamaja,Mushin Local Government is protesting the refusal of the General Manager of IKEDC to supply the community power supply for over 2 weeks after meetings to reduce the "crazy bills" broke down.

Earlier, meetings have been organized to ensure a reduction of the high bills being given to majority of the community with a epileptic power supply coupled with it.

We await the response of the GM as efforts to get him speak proved abortive.

33-Year-Old Woman Sent To Prison A Week To Her Wedding In Lagos

A 33- year- old woman Olawunmi Oyebode has been arrested and remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri for assault .

This happened one week to her wedding in Lagos State , western Nigeria .

Her journey to prison started after she was arraigned before a Magistrates ’ Court sitting in Isolo for the alleged offence.

Oyebode who had concluded plan to on her wedding allegedly slapped her neighbor, Anthony Onyeka for undisclosed reason .
The incident happened at 51, Ijikoyejo street , Ijeshatedo, Lagos where they reside .

After the alleged assault, Onyeka went to Ijeshatedo police division and reported Oyebode and she was arrested and taken to the station. Every attempt by the police to settle the rift failed as Oyebode refused to apologise to Onyeka as advised .

Thereafter the police charged Oyebode to court with assault. When she was arraigned, she pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Joy Ugbomoiko granted her bail in the sum of N20Kwith one surety. She was remanded in prison custody pending when her bail will be perfected .

While she was taken to prison custody, Oyebode remembered her wedding date and broke down in tears .

The matter was adjourned till 16 October , 2015.

I Killed My Friend,Buried Him In Shallow Grave – suspect

Ngbede Omale has confessed to Benue State Police Command how he secretly killed his friend, Agabaidu Omale and buried him in a shallow grave.

Narrating how he committed the crime to Daily Sun at the State Police Headquarters where he is presently cooling his heels, Ngbede said he had a heated argument with his friend in the farm which resulted into a fight.

“I just gave him a little push and he fell down and before I knew it, he was dead. I tried to resuscitate him but to no avail. I didn’t know what to do and there was nobody around. So, I quickly dug a shallow grave and buried him there.”

The suspect, who is now blaming the devil for his crimes said he didn’t intend to kill his friend.

However, when it was announced in the village that Agabaidu was missing, Ngbede kept sealed lips for over eight months until hunters one day discovered his skeleton in the shallow grave where he had been buried.

“I did not intend to kill him. I did not know that he would die. In fact, as soon as I buried him, I came home and confided in one of my cousins after which I ran away from the village. I did not know that my sin would still find me out. I am sorry.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Dibal Yakadi said the bubble burst when the mother of the deceased insisted his son was last seen with Ngbede and a manhunt was launched to nab him.

Yakadi said during investigation, Ngbede who was later found and arrested at a village in Kwara State, confessed to the crime adding that he would soon be charged to court when investigation is completed.

A South African woman named Miekie van Tonder has showed unconditional love to a lion she met 5 days after the cub separated from her mother. Miekie took Elsa home, raised her with her hands and took care of her till she grew a little older.

Elsa later moved to an enclosure which she shared with two, slightly bigger, male lion cubs. Elsa who was 8 months then and had never interacted with lions before and wasn’t used to their rough play but joined in and injured her neck.

Miekie then went for her, and realized she had to go for an operation, but the money she had was not enough to fix it. So she went for lion’s cloth, stayed in traffic and begged for money to operate her ‘pet’.  After realizing the needed money, Elsa underwent a two hour operation which appeared to fix the problem but later started having problems with her balance.

Miekie then took her home washes her, feeds her and cared for her till she totally recovered. ‘At night she still sleeps with me. She cuddles up with me under the duvet. It’s amazing sleeping with a lion,’ she said narrating she has nothing to fear. 

Nollywood Eucheria Anunobi Joins Tinsel TV Series

Anunobi joins the soap playing the role of Claudia Ojeme, mother to Jared Ojeme and wife of Japhet Ojeme.

This is a welcome development as the show has witnessed a number of exits with popular names as Damilola Adegbite, Chris Attoh, Victor Olaotan and Uti Nwachukwu all written off or leaving the cast at one point or the other.

In a related development, the soap introduced Tayo Faniran of the Big Brother Africa fame to its cast. He joined the team on Monday, August 17 to play the role of Soji which was previously played by Gbenro Ajibade.

Before now, Tinsel switched the role of Angela Dede (Matilda Obaseki-Mozia) with actress Theresa Edem.

With Anunobi’s introduction she joins other seasoned actors as Kalu Ikeagwu, Iretiola Doyle and Bimbo Manuel on the set of Tinsel.

The Federal Government has declared Thursday October 1st as a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria's 55th Independence anniversary. The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Abubakar Magaji, made the declaration on behalf of the FG in a statement signed by the ministry’s Director of Press, Yusuf Isiaka.

His manager, Ubi Franklin, Iyanya said he never promised food and was not in charge of what guest got at the event.

“Go and check Iyanya’s promotion for the album, we did not promise anybody that we would put anything on the table. If you are sitting on the table, it is premium. Iyanya gave them a proper show for three hours. Iyanya and I were not in charge of what would be put on the table,” Franklin said without remorse as he rudely cut off the phone, Punch reported.

My Husband Is A Big Fraudster, I Didn’t Know – Wife Cries Out

When 30-year-old Chinenyere Ogokie met her husband in 2007, never in her wildest imagination did she imagine that a day would come when she would discover that he is a fraudster and wife-beater.

According to the trader who sells cosmetics at Idumota Market in Lagos, “I met my husband, Smart Orire, in 2007 and we got married in 2011. At that time, he was a teacher at Coker area here in Lagos.

“Later, he stopped teaching and started working at the Nigerian Breweries (NB). Our relationship was good and rosy until I discovered that I had married a wolf in sheep clothing.

Taking To Fraud

“His real attitude began to manifest. He began to engage himself in fraudulent activities that led to his sack. He collected contributions from a thrift co-operative and then refused to pay back to his co-workers. His colleagues reported him to the management and he was sacked after the matter was investigated.

“Immediately after his sack, Smart went into sales of home appliances. It was at this point I began to notice changes in his attitude and people started coming to my house claiming to have been duped by him.

“I kept warning him about his fraudulent activities, but he wouldn’t listen, saying that it was the ranting of a woman. Later, I discovered that he was defrauding people because he wanted to travel outside the country. When I confronted him, he denied, claiming that he had no such plans.

“When the heat became too much after his victims started trailing him, he fled. Some of the people he defrauded came with soldiers to my house and parked my property. One of them took my generator and invited the police to arrest me. I was constantly harassed by people he defrauded all because I am his wife, even though I didn’t know when they had their transactions.”

His Arrest
“Recently, one of them invited police officers from Amukoko who arrested me and later, they were able to arrest my husband. I was granted bail after the police investigations revealed that I was not part of the fraud.

“Because it was a bailable offence, he was later granted bail. After he was released, he came back and gave me the beating of my life for not supporting him at the station. He accused me of informing the police where he had fled to, that made them arrest him. He threatened to harm me any time he saw me. After beating me that night, he fled again. Since then, I have not seen him. The worst part of it is that every day, new victims of his nefarious activities keep coming to harass me and threaten my little son.”

My Regrets
The mother of one lamented further: “I disobeyed my father, who was against my union with Smart. I thought I was following my heart when I went ahead and married him. Look at what false love has brought me into. I never knew that he was using me as the fool. I never knew that I married a ‘419ner’. Our marriage produced our son whose name is Emmanuel Orire. I never knew that the father of my son is a ‘419ner’. God knows that I am innocent. I am pleading with the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, and Human right activists to come to my rescue.”

All efforts made to reach the victim’s husband, Smart, who has since absconded were futile as all his phone lines have been switched off.

Schurrle Slams Mourinho Over Trust Issues

The former Chelsea player Andre Schurrle has revealed why he left the London side halfway through last season’s campaign.

The young German who now plies his trade with Wolfsburg said he left Stamford Bridge last summer because Jose Mourinho didn’t believe in his qualities.

Schurrle told The Times: “I had a good time at Chelsea and was accepted in the team, so it’s difficult to explain why I left. 

“My performances were good as well, but there was a time in my second season when I felt I didn’t have the manager’s trust anymore and I didn’t play many matches from the start.

“I don’t know why Mourinho didn’t trust me. It all felt a bit weird to me. I started a few games, was on the bench for a few, then started some more.

“It was up and down the whole time. I had a lot of good talks with the manager and respect him a lot, as he told me to my face what he wanted me to do. I had some very good games, but there was often an ordinary game soon afterwards as well.

“I didn’t get any consistency from the manager so found it hard to produce my best. That’s probably the biggest reason I wanted to leave.

“It was difficult to leave, but when I had the chance to come back to Germany to join an awesome club like Wolfsburg I felt it was a good decision.

In his 1st years at Chelsea, Schurrle netted eight goals in 30 Premier League appearances.

The 24-year-old however decided to move on halfway through his second year after falling out of favour with the coach
